The river Arade was once an important highway for trade from the inland city of Silves past the
fishing village of Portimão to the ocean. The little village of Mexilhoeira da Carregação clo
se to the mouth of the river was then an important centre for processing and canning fish. Even
today the village retains its character and charm, and it is here, on the river bank, that Boca
